Event: Emporia Symphony Orchestra Concert

Details: The Emporia Symphony Orchestra is an ensemble made up of 50-65 community and university musicians that performs both on and off campus in various venues.  They perform the standard orchestra repertoire ranging from Baroque to contemporary. 

Time:   7:30pm

Admission: $5.00 for General Admission, $4.00 for Students and Senior Citizens, Children 12 and under are free


Thursday, April 27th

Event:  Russian National Ballet Theatre – Sleeping Beauty, Presented by Emporia Arts Council  

DetailsA company of over 50 dancers brings this classic fairytale to life with stunning precision and artistry set to a timeless Tchaikovsky score. Founded by former Bolshoi principal dancer Elena Radchenko, the Russian National Ballet Theatre continues to amaze audiences with the excellence of Russian ballet.

Time: 7:30pm

Admission: $25 General Admission; $10 Youth (under 18), Free for students (tickets are available in Ticket Office)

Friday, April 28th

Event:  Wind Ensemble

DetailsThe Emporia State University Wind Ensemble is a 60 member group, consisting of the university’s premiere wind players and percussionists. The group has recently performed the music of composers such as Vincent Persichetti, Dmitri Shostakovich, William Schumann and Eric Whitacre. The Wind Ensemble has released two compact discs, Rituals of Fire and Racing With the Sun, featuring the music of ESU composers. 

Time: 7:30pm

Admission: $5.00 for General Admission, $4.00 for Students, Senior Citizens and Children 12 and under are free

Event:  Choir Concert

DetailsEmporia State has a long tradition of excellence in choral music. Under the direction of Dr. Robert Ward, the choirs at ESU are made up of students from many different majors and backgrounds.

Time: 3pm

After the sudden death of their father, Elinor and Marianne Dashwood are left penniless and must maneuver their way into financial and social stability. This story will make audiences laugh, cry, and cry from laughter. Most notably, the production features a bold new take on a 200-year-old masterpiece still taught in high school and college literature classes today.

The gravel road north of the Interstate will be closed to thru traffic starting Wednesday, April 26, 2017.  Facilities will be replacing the  underground culvert (under the road) at the northeast corner of Wilson Lake.  Please plan on taking alternate routes to access the Trusler Sports Complex.  Please contact me if you have any questions.  Thanks.

Research and Creativity Day will take place this Thursday, April 27.  All locations are in the Memorial Union. The day will begin with oral presentations by undergraduate and graduate students from 9:00 am – 11:30 am in the Blue Key, Greek, and Xi Phi Rooms. The Three Minute Thesis contest will begin at 10:00 in the Kanza Room.  The buffet lunch for all participants and awardees will begin at 11:30 in the Colonial Ballroom, with the Award and Recognition Ceremony beginning at noon.  The award ceremony will include the Phi Kappa Phi Awards for best abstracts, announcement of graduate student scholarship and awards, the ESU Summer Undergraduate Research Program Awards, recognition of faculty who received Faculty Research & Creativity awards, and will conclude with the presentation of the President’s Award for Research and Creativity.  The day will conclude with the Poster Session from 1:00 – 3:00 pm in Webb Hall.  This year we will sponsor People’s Choice awards – attendees will be able to vote for their favorite oral presenter or poster exhibit and there will be cash prizes. Those will be announced on Friday.  There will also be door prizes donated by local businesses and we will have a drawing for those at 2:00 and at 3:00.  You must be present to win those.  We encourage you to support your colleagues and students by attending as many presentations as you can.  The complete announcement with oral presentation schedule and list of poster presenters is available at  Take a look – we have 9 undergraduate oral presentations, 13 graduate oral presentations, 11 Three Minute Thesis entries,  and 133 poster exhibits on a wide variety of topics – there will be something to interest everyone!   Join us in the Memorial Union on Thursday and be sure to vote for your favorite!

Take a break and come enjoy some beautiful music from the Flute Choir. Need some convocation credit? You are in luck! This event counts towards convocation credit!! So come on out and enjoy the beautiful sounds of the flutes!! Audience is limited to 25 seats, so get there early!

Ticket sales start Monday, April 24th and run through Friday, May 5th at 1:00 pm.  Tickets are $1 each and can be purchased in the Facilities office.  All proceeds go to scholarships for University Support Staff dependents.  Also, come enjoy a hot dog/brat, chips, dessert and a drink for $4 on May 5th from 11:30-1:00pm.
